Retention Ponds

Many residents may wonder why do subdivisions have retention ponds? Retention ponds are required by law in order to provide proper storage of excess rain water so our homes do not flood. So you see, our retention ponds are not only aesthetically pleasing, but they also serve a very important role for our community.

It's necessary to properly maintain our ponds so they add and not detract from our community. Proper maintenance of retention ponds is not an easy task. There are many factors to consider including aeration, appropriate and timely application of chemicals to control weeds and algae, and control of excess phosphate runoff, to name just a few.

Last year there was been a marked improvement in the overall appearance of our ponds. New fountains were purchased which provide better aeration, this means more oxygen is transferred to the ponds. Increased aeration helps the ponds not only look better, but also improves the overall health of the ponds. Our pond vendor, Aquatic Control, has been very proactive in treating our water weeds and algae. An Aquatic Control technician visits our ponds every two weeks to treat emergent nuisance vegetation. Thanks to our new fountains and our Aquatic Control technician our ponds are looking great this year!
